Local Refinement Consultation videos

National Highways have shared Local Refinement Consultation videos instead of webinars like they have done previously.

Where can I watch the videos?

The videos are available online here – https://ltcconsultation2022.nationalhighways.co.uk/video-library/ and we’ve embedded some of the latest videos below for quick access now!  Please be aware that these videos do not cover all aspects of changes that are being proposed, they only detail what NH consider to be highlights of the changes being proposed.

Local Refinement Consultation – new images (NB there are no new images for south of the river)

Kent videos

Kent Part Key Changes

Note that this video starts with the usual statements about how the proposed LTC is about fixing the problems at the Dartford Crossing.  Take a look at our update on why the proposed LTC is not fit for purpose and would not solve the problems.

Kent Part 1 (British Sign Language Signed and Captioned)

Kent Part 2 (British Sign Language Signed and Captioned)

Note that we have identified some walking, cycling, horse riding routes which NH claim to be ‘new’ when they are routes that are currently already in use. Please do check details rather than simply trusting NH that they are ‘new’.

Note how they admit they have still to assess the air and noise pollution levels, and the nitrogen deposition. This means that we are not being provided with important information like this during consultation.

Thurrock, Essex, and Havering

Thurrock, Essex, and Havering – Key Changes

Again, note that this video starts with the usual statements about how the proposed LTC is about fixing the problems at the Dartford Crossing.  Take a look at our update on why the proposed LTC is not fit for purpose and would not solve the problems.

Note how they talk about their proposals improving links and connectivity for ecological habitats. Like putting a huge road through the middle of the marshes with a huge construction compound for 6-7 years helps improve links and connectivity for ecological habitats!

They also talk about new habitats to the east including Muckingford Flats and Marshes and the Thameside Nature Reserve.  Please note these are existing sites, they would not be new because of LTC plans, if it goes ahead.  You can even see on the map that Muckingford Flats and Marshes are already a Site of Scientific Special Interest (SSSI) and Ramsar site. And I am sure like us many of you have visited Thameside Nature Reserve so know it already exists!  The way this is presented to suggest new habitats there as a result of LTC is questionable to say the least, the sites are not even within the LTC development boundary.

Thurrock, Essex, and Havering – Part 1 (British Sign Language Signed and Captioned)

NB. Thurrock Council have serious concerns over many aspects of the proposed LTC, including the newly added Orsett Cock to A1089 connection mentioned in these videos.

Please also note that when references are made to air and noise pollution being inline with what was presented at the last consultation, it is impossible for NH to make this claim since they have not yet completed new air and noise pollution assessments in regard to the latest changes.

Thurrock, Essex, and Havering – Part 2 (British Sign Language Signed and Captioned)

Note how they admit they have still to assess the air and noise pollution levels, and the nitrogen deposition. This means that we are not being provided with important information like this during consultation.

Got questions after watching the videos?

If you have any questions after watching the videos you can submit your questions via email or phone 0300 123 5000.  Bear in mind it can take a while for them to respond to email and phone questions, and they advise it can take up to 15 working days.  If you haven’t received responses by the time you wish to submit your response, please comment on the lack of response and any concerns you have.

Inadequacies of consultation

Whilst National Highways have corrected it now, for a while on the videos page when you tried to watch part 2 of the Thurrock, Essex and Havering videos it loaded one of the Kent videos!  Notice above the Thurrock, Essex and Havering videos are presented by a male presenter, the Kent videos are presented by a female presenter.  Plus you can time check the videos and see that they had uploaded the wrong video to their channel!

TCAG opinion of videos

Please be aware that much of the content in these videos we consider to be typical LTC propaganda.  We recommend carrying out research into the latest info on the proposed LTC, including taking a look at some of our updates, rather than purely taking these videos as face value.  As always seem to be the case with LTC, the more you look into it the worse it seems to get sadly.

Remember the Local Refinement Consultation runs until 23:59 on Monday 20th June 2022.  Remember to include any comments you have on the videos or any other consultation materials, anything you consider to be inadequacies or concerns, as well as the proposed LTC!  Be sure to have your say!
