Secretary of State seeks further info on LTC

Third post examination Secretary of State Consultation – 10th May 2024

On the 10th May 2024 the Planning Inspectorate sent out notifications that the Secretary of State for Transport had issued a third letter requesting information from National Highways, Natural England, Network Rail, the Mee Family, Hill Residential Ltd., MOPAC the RSPB, and the owners and operators of Whitecroft Care Home in regard to the proposed Lower Thames Crossing.

The deadline for this consultation – 23:59 on 23rd May 2024.  Responses to this consultation will be published on the PINS LTC pages in due course.

Whilst it remains to be seen whether there will be further consultation by the Secretary of State, it is worth noting that some other NSIPs have had 9 or 10 rounds of further consultation similar to this.  We will be monitoring the PINS website and email notifications for any further rounds of SoS consultation.  Watch this space!

Responses to this letter should be submitted no later than 23.59 on 23 May 2024.

On the 19th April 2024 the Planning Inspectorate sent out notifications that the Secretary of State for Transport had issued a second letter requesting information from various parties and all Interested Parties in regard to the proposed Lower Thames Crossing.

The request for information has been directed at National Highways, Natural England, Kent County Council, the London Borough of Havering, Thurrock Council, the Crown Estate, the Duchy of Lancaster, the operators of Whitecroft Care Home, NetworkRail, Port of Tilbury London Ltd., Port of London Authority, HS1 Ltd., Essex Wildlife Trust and other interested parties.

The request for this information is to assist the Secretary of State for Transport as he considers whether to grant the proposed LTC permission or not.

Details of what these parties are being asked for updates/information on can be found in the letter.

Interested Parties should include their Interested Parties Reference Number in any response. You should be able to find this in the confirmation email when you registered as an Interested Party. It should also be included in the PINS notification email alerting you to this post examination consultation letter.

The request for information has been directed at National Highways, The Environment Agency, London Borough of Havering Council, Thurrock Council, Kent County Council, The Secretary of State for DEFRA, the Crown Estate, The King's Most Excellent Majesty in the Right of His Duchy of Lancaster, The Estates team within the Department for Transport, Essex Wildlife Trust, Mayor’s Office for Policing and Crime, The RSPB, Whitecroft Care Home, The Mee Family, Hill Residential Ltd, Environment Agency, Southern Water, HS1 Limited, Network Rail, Port of Tilbury London Ltd and The Port of London Authority.

The request for this information is to assist the Secretary of State for Transport as he considers whether to grant the proposed LTC permission or not.  It appears that as anticipated the request for updates and information is due to the amount of outstanding issues at the end of the LTC DCO Examination.
